Turn one recurring research job into a system
OpenAI released the Agents API in public beta. The useful shift for a small team is a durable working process for one recurring research or preparation job, with notes, sources and a draft saved for review.

OpenAI introduced the Agents API in public beta on September 10, with persistent sessions, selected tools and environments, and optional parallel assignments.
A weekly market brief or similar recurring job can retain its working context and return a reviewable draft instead of starting from an empty chat.
A public beta does not make an unclear process ready to automate. Do not start with work that changes systems, sends messages or makes commitments.

Only where it appliesChoose one repeatable job
Define the source set, the question it answers, the draft it must return and who checks it. Keep the first run read-only. If it saves time and produces a better reviewable draft, add only the next useful capability.
Limit: Do not use more tools or parallel agents to hide an unclear job. The first version should be easier to inspect than the current manual process.
Recurring preparation can retain its trail of work
For owners who want one useful job to start with better context each week.

OpenAI announced the Agents API on September 10 as a public beta. Its announcement says developers choose the task, model, tools and environment, and describes session continuity, tool search and optional parallel work.
Think of a weekly competitor or policy brief. A first version can read a named source set, collect the relevant changes and return citations with a draft for review. The operator still checks claims and decides what to do.
Start with a recurring job whose output a person already reviews. Preserve the source trail and human decision, then judge whether the system reduces preparation without adding a new problem to supervise.
